Principal bridge inspection

What a principal inspection of a road bridge is, and how often it is done.

A principal inspection is a close, detailed examination of every accessible part of a bridge, recording defects, rating condition, and scheduling and costing remedial work by year. It is the formal record of a structure's condition and of what the authority knew and planned. Ireland's bridge stock is managed under the Eirspan bridge management system.
